Nina Yokochi, DO
Dr. Yokochi is a full physician, double board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult Psychiatry and Child/Adolescent psychiatry. She believes in a mind/body/spirit approach to medical care and has specialized training in trauma therapy in children and adolescents. Dr. Yokochi primarily works at the hospital in the acute adult inpatient setting, but wanted to open a private practice when she realized the dire need to use her child training to better serve the Wilmington, NC and surrounding areas.

Dr. Yokochi completed a general adult psychiatry residency (2011-2014) and fast tracked to complete a 2 year child and adolsecent psychiatry fellowship (2014-2016) in Pittsburgh, PA. She was certified in Trauma focused CBT during her fellowship training at the Center for Traumatic Stress. Dr. Yokochi's residency training encompassed 4 months of general medical training, (Internal medicine, emergency medicine, family medicine), 3 months of inpatient neurology training (stroke and general, child), and then a mix of acute adult and child inpatient, outpatient, consultation liaison, partial hospitalization for adults and children, specialized autism training, school based programs, ECT, and specialized therapy training (CBT, psychodynamic, play therapy, TF-CBT).

Dr. Yokochi completed a 4 year advanced doctoral degree in osteopathic medicine (D.O.) which included advanced biochemistry, gross anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathology amongst other basic disciplines, and training in Osteopathic manipulative therapy, centered on a mind, body spirit approach, keeping in mind the body's inherent capacity to heal itself. Medical school also includes 2 years of hands- on clinical training in the majority of medical specialties.

Dr. Yokochi graduated with Honor's and cum laude with a BS in Chemistry from Marshall University, with a minor in psychology. She also completed some advanced graduate studies in evolutionary biology prior to entering medical school.
